Although the US went through an insurrgence of Ninjaphelia (shortly after the Ninja Turtle movies and cartoons. The true nature of ninja films is best captured in classics from the Shaw Brothers (being Hong Kong made)
Movies like:
Chinese Super Ninjas
Shaolin vs. Ninja
And some of the Wu Tang series greats like
Wu-Tang vs. Ninja
I think, for the most part, the glorification of the ninja arts is very much pointless in most movies.
Do any of you actually PRACTICE any ninja skills or do oyu just love the movies?

Re: Non American Made Ninja flicks
Tue, July 6, 2004 - 12:47 PMGOLDEN NINJA WARRIOR is a hilarious non american flick.
i used to dress as a ninja, in halloween as a kid - thats the farest i have gotten with practicing Ninjitsu.
i beleive most of us who like these movies, are lovin' it due to fond childhood 80's memories, when the CANNON group went crazy with ninja flicks.
i mean come on,when u see them today, most of them are quite ridiculous and badly made.
They still rock, but in the most camp-ish way possible.

Re: Non American Made Ninja flicks
Thu, June 2, 2005 - 5:37 PMDon't forget MAFIA vs. NINJA! The Davey Crockett character is one of the best I've ever seen. (And by best I mean worst).
Among the best of the worst Japanese-made ninja movies are:
NINJA WARS (Japanese title Ninja no Senso). One of the worst and most incredibly strange films ever made. Some of the Iga ninja in this one battle the five devil monks, one of whom is short, has an afro, and vomits an omelet of death at his opponents.
Another one that deserves mention is THE NINJA GIRLS. I love this movie so much. It centers around (What else?) enemy ninjas with special powers, such as "Occidental Ninja", a white woman with an eighties perm who sprays beaujolais nouveau from her breasts. There is also an evel monk who employs "Third leg magic" to become a human tripod...luckily the ninja girls counter with "Balloon magic" and blow him away (and not in the good way).
I can't find this last one anywhere though I rented it from a major store in the past five years. If any of you know of its existence somewhere please tell me!

Re: Non American Made Ninja flicks
Thu, June 2, 2005 - 5:39 PMI forgot to mention that Ninja Wars is based on a *novel*. This fact was absolutely unbelievable to me when I was a kid. However, now that I've been from one end of Japan to the other and know its history a little better, I realize that the events depicted in the film (puke-omelet of death notwithstanding) are historically accurate. It just isn't as funny anymore!!

Re: Non American Made Ninja flicks
Fri, July 28, 2006 - 7:49 AMActually there are some of us who do pratice Ninjitsu AKA bujinkan. as far as movies go, there was one european ninja movie made that had actual practicioners in it. Can't remember it right off but plot and and storyline were way bad 80's Eruo movies at it's finest but the martial arts, and infiltration scenes were pretty good. I'll see if I can remember the name.
